Sirium started in the early 2000s to help run hobbyist websites for a group of tech-savvy friends who needed more flexibility and other (perhaps more obscure) features that mainstream hosts were willing or able to provide.

As some of the groups' interests changed, Sirium was opened to other people to help with running costs. As other peoples' sites rely on Sirium, it has been run as "professionally" as possible.
